Did you know?
Why You Should Charge Your Phone When It Hits 50 Percent - We all want our phone batteries to last as long as possible and most of us believe that the best practice is to drain it completely and then give it a full charge. But for lithium-ion batteries, that doesn’t appear to be the case. If you deplete it and recharge you only get 300 - 500 cycles. If you go down to 50% and back up, you should get 1,200 - 1,500 cycles. That is a huge difference and makes me rethink my phone battery management!  The science and technical details can be found in the article by Jake Swearingen on Select/All. @nymag http://nymag.com/selectall/2016/09/why-you-should-charge-your-phone-when-it-hits-50-percent.html image: https://pixabay.com/p-1503703/?no_redirect

You Can Ask Siri To Pick A Random Number within a defined range. For example, “Hey Siri, random number between 1 and 25." Thank you +Tony Vincent

A reverse image search can be done using TinEye
This is a nice, free website to use to check and see if a photo is actually available for public domain use or to find out more information on an image. You can search by uploading an image or by putting in a link. See TinEye in action in this video by +Richard Byrne How to Conduct a Reverse Image Search

What if?
20 practical ways to use Google Forms in class, school +Matt Miller gives you ways to implement this tool in your classroom. He has ideas for using them with procedural tasks, assessment (of course!), as well as learning and creating. The last category is my favorite, and some are on the advanced side, especially the “Amazing Race, Google Style”! +Google for Education http://ditchthattextbook.com/2016/09/08/20-practical-ways-to-use-google-forms-in-class-school/

Ask Siri to remind you of tasks based on your location - We’re all busy and I know I could use all of the reminders I can get. Siri can help you with that. This video shows you how it works http://www.apple.com/education/teachers/?CID=mkts-edu-appleteacher-ett#teacher

Something to think about…
Access your Google Classroom from your Mobile Device - you can do several functions in Google Classroom on your mobile device including: grade assignments, create and edit assignments and use a photo to create a post or assignment. For more on the mobile options see the Mobile app FAQ page from +Google for Education or the Create or modify an assignment and choose your device: computer, android or iPhone & iPad.

Become an Apple Teacher - Apple has a program you can sign up for. It is free and designed “to help you build skills and stay inspired.”  It will give you access to their Teacher Learning Center full of resources to help in the use of the Apple products and apps.  And, if you like, there are 8 badges you can earn, along with an official Apple Teacher designation. http://www.apple.com/education/teachers/?CID=mkts-edu-appleteacher-ett#teacher thank you +EdTechTeam  image: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/8a/Apple_Logo.svg/200px-Apple_Logo.svg.png

In Addition…
Improve The World With Your Smartphone - The items featured here are from an article on +Lifehack I’ll be including one each week until the list runs out. This week's feature is:

“Regardless of whether or not you are actually taking a dog for a walk, you can turn on the Walk for a Dog app to contribute to your favorite local animal shelter or rescue group. One of the best things about this particular app is that it has a long list of smaller animal organizations that may otherwise fail to receive a large influx of donations. You can also let your preferred local group know about this program so that they can get added to the list.” - By Holly Chavez This app does require that you change locations as you walk, it won’t track miles on a treadmill. The app does ask that you walk at least once a week. If you don't have a dog or walk a dog regularly, that's ok! You could turn it on each time you go to the grocery store and help a rescue/shelter while you shop! http://www.lifehack.org/428294/10-ways-to-improve-the-world-with-your-smartphone?ref=mail&mtype=daily_newsletter&mid=20160907_customized&uid=103833&email=jlyle%40argyleisd.com&action=click

Are Nutrition Labels Too Much to Take In? Try the free Weight Loss Coach by Fooducate App. Rated “Apple’s Best of the iPhone Health & Fitness” category and 1st prize in the “US Surgeon General’s Healthy App Challenge”, it could be just what you need! This app will let you track your food and exercise, track the quality of calories and track your sleep, mood and hunger levels. But, my favorite feature is that it will scan nutrition labels and analyze the information for you. It will scan over 250,000 products and assign it a personalised nutrition grade. It looks for added sugars, tricky trans fats, MSG, GMO’s, artificial sweeteners, controversial food colorings and more. +Fooducate https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/weight-loss-coach-by-fooducate/id398436747?mt=8

Why Didn’t I Think of That?
“Place a rubber band around the open can so you can wipe the excess paint off the brush and not the side of the can every time you dip.  This keeps the can’s lip clean – no build up of paint to have to clean up.” http://inmyownstyle.com/2011/05/staging-or-decorating-tips-and-tricks-part-3.html
